[Reporter Yang Yuanting/Report from Taipei] The General Administration of Customs of China announced on its website yesterday that only 1 company’s aquatic products can still be exported, which means that almost all aquatic products in Taiwan are currently unable to be exported. The Council of Agriculture estimates that the overall output value will be more than 6 billion Among them, the most influential ones are larvae, squid, saury, bonito, etc. Chen Jizhong, chairman of the Council of Agriculture, said today (9th) that different measures will be implemented for pelagic or farmed species according to aquatic products, and larvae will be strengthened. For domestic marketing, squid was previously exported to China for processing, so it will be transferred to Thailand and other Southeast Asian regions for production, while saury will be exported to the Korean market.

The Council of Agriculture held a "press conference on the suspension of registration of aquatic products exported to China and the response measures to explain the press conference", and Wu Xiumei, director of the Food and Drug Administration, also attended.

Chen Jizhong said that the Council of Agriculture will take two major measures. First, through the Food and Drug Administration, we will ask the customs on the other side how we can make up the documents and resume smooth export. Then, we will simultaneously start targeting pelagic fish species, farmed fish species, etc. Depending on the response measures, the farmed larvae will be mainly sold domestically, while the pelagic squid and saury are mainly exported.

Chen Jizhong further explained that China has successively banned Taiwan’s agricultural products since March last year, and some fishermen have become alert. For example, the domestic sales of larvae this year have almost doubled compared to 2020, so larvae will be marketed domestically. Mainly through restaurants, vegetable markets, online e-commerce, supermarkets and other channels.

As for pelagic fish such as saury and squid, they are mainly exported. He pointed out that the main export markets of Chinese saury are South Korea and Japan. Next, saury will be locked in the Korean and Japanese markets. Squid and skipjack were exported to China for processing in the past. It will be transferred to other countries such as Thailand and other Southeast Asian countries for processing, and it will also look for suitable processing factories in Southeast Asia.

In addition, Chen Jizhong said that incentives such as frozen storage and export sales will also be provided, and relevant measures will be reported to the outside world later.

Since April last year, China has required products imported from other countries to log in to the registration procedure created by the country. After China implements this regulation, the time for other countries to make up parts will be in June next year, and the time for Taiwan to make up parts will be in August this year. At the end of the month; according to the statistics of the Council of Agriculture, as of the end of November this year, the overall output value of Taiwan's aquatic products exports was about NT$4.6 billion.

Chen Jizhong, chairman of the Council of Agriculture, explained the countermeasures in the afternoon.
