The Netherlands plans to build two nuclear power plants by 2035, which will provide up to 13 percent of the country's total electricity production, the Dutch government announced, quoted by BTA.

The new nuclear plants are set to play an important role in the country's energy transition as the Netherlands aims to make electricity production carbon neutral by 2040. Last year, the Netherlands got 12 percent of its energy from sustainable sources.

The government expects to build the new facilities near the only nuclear power plant currently operating in the country - Borsel NPP in the southwestern part of the Netherlands.

The Hungarian Parliament approved the extension of the life of the four operating reactors of the Paks NPP

The government previously earmarked 5 billion euros for the construction of new nuclear power units from a total fund of 35 billion euros intended to finance the energy transition over the next decade.

Construction of the two new nuclear plants is expected to begin in 2028.
