In Russia, oppositionist Ilya Yashin was sentenced to 8.5 years of imprisonment in a general regime colony.

This is reported by "Mediazona".

After his release, he will be banned from using the Internet for another four years.

Yashin was found guilty of spreading so-called "fakes" about the Russian army in connection with his stream about the mass murders of Buchi residents.

The prosecutor imprisoned the oppositionist for 9 years.

The court recognized his "guilt" in spreading "fakes" about the Russian army as fully proven.

Yashin did not admit his guilt.

"The court sentenced me to 8 years and 6 months in prison. Well, the authors of the sentence are optimistic about Putin's prospects. In my opinion, they are too optimistic," he said.

Yashin is sure that he and his associates have won this case and explained why he thinks so.

"You and I won this trial, friends. The process was intended as an exposure of the "enemy of the people" in my person, but turned into an anti-war tribune. We spoke the truth about war crimes and called for an end to the bloodshed. And in response, we heard a mixture of slogans from the Cold War era, which was confusedly voiced by the prosecutor," the politician believes.

Dozens of people came to the court session to support the opposition, but not everyone was able to get into the building.

It should be noted that at the moment this is the harshest sentence for the article on "fakes" about the Russian army.

Earlier, Moscow municipal deputy Oleksiy Horin, who called for the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine, was sentenced to 7 years.
