Cyclonic storm 'Mandus' over the Bay of Bengal is likely to cross between Sriharikota and Puducherry in the neighboring state of Andhra Pradesh today i.e. midnight of December 9, many people in Tamil Nadu There are chances of heavy rains in parts.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has given this information on Thursday. 

The Tamil Nadu government said that 12 teams comprising about 400 personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Management Force have been deployed in a total of 10 districts including Nagapattinam and Thanjavur, Chennai, its three neighboring districts and Cuddalore in the Cauvery delta region .

In these areas, a holiday has been declared in schools and colleges on Friday.

In an updated bulletin, the IMD said that cyclonic storm 'MANDUS' moved over the southwest Bay of Bengal and is about 480 km east-southeast of Chennai and 390 km from Kariyakal. Light to moderate rainfall at places with heavy to very heavy falls at a few places and extremely heavy falls at isolated places over North Coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over adjoining South Coastal Andhra Pradesh and North Interior Tamil Nadu and Rayalaseema.

It is expected to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a severe cyclonic storm.

According to the bulletin, "It will move west-northwestwards with winds reaching 70 kmph between Puducherry and Sriharikota along and off south coast of north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and adjoining Andhra Pradesh around midnight of December 9." There is a possibility of passing." Puducherry is about 160 km from Chennai.

The Tamil Nadu government has taken all precautionary measures in view of the forecast of heavy rains.
