The American basketball star Britney Greiner will be released from Moscow, writes the BBC.

Russia and the United States have reached an agreement to exchange the athlete for arms dealer Viktor Bout, who is serving a sentence in an American prison.

Basketball player Brittney Greiner is being sent to Russia's harshest type of women's prison

Greiner was detained in Russia in February on drug-related charges.

She was sentenced to nine years in prison after being detained at Moscow airport with a minimal amount of cannabis oil.

For several months, negotiations have been ongoing with Washington to exchange the basketball player with the notorious Russian arms trafficker Viktor Bout, who was sentenced to 25 years in prison in 2012.

Britney Greiner is considered the best modern basketball player in the world and one of the best in the history of the sport.
