The MEP from "Democratic Bulgaria" defined the blocking of Bulgaria for Schengen as a geostrategic blow for Bulgaria with enormous force and a direct threat to our national security

"Democratic Bulgaria" is a center-right political association composed of Radan Kanev and EPP

Radan Kanev was born on September 30, 1975 in the city of Sofia. He graduated from the capital's French high school and appeared in the program "The World and Us" on BNT.

"We will have a few months to implement a policy that will ensure, first of all, that the division will not happen, secondly, that at the next stage, when the presidency of the European Union next raises this issue within the framework of 2023, Bulgaria's candidacy will not be blocked and together with Romania we will be accepted," Kanev said.

According to him, there are no doubts in the Bulgarian society regarding the accession of our country to Schengen, there is also unanimity among the political forces.

Prime Minister Donev urged: Let's not use Schengen for political glory

The MEP highlighted the advantages of joining the Schengen area, which on the one hand are related to the possibility of European citizens crossing the borders without passport checks and long waiting times, and on the other - to trade and transport.

Between Bulgaria and Romania, countries that are economically extremely close, it sometimes takes hours to cross the border.

The traffic between Bulgaria and Greece is also not easy.

This has a major impact on trade and industry," he stressed.

The most significant benefit that we can derive from joining Schengen is the feeling in our economic partners of the full value of Bulgaria's membership in the European Union, believes Radan Kanev

Radan Kanev was born on September 30, 1975 in the city of Sofia. He graduated from the capital's French high school and. According to him, this would have a serious effect on investments in the country.

"There is an image nuance. It is part of the bigger picture of how fully a participant we are in the new European security policies," he explained.

The MEP noted that the close integration of Bulgaria in the field of security is decisive in the current times, when the war is very close to us and the world is more unstable.

"An important factor is the migrant crisis of 2015 and the currently intensifying new wave of migrants," he explained.

According to Radan Kanev

Radan Kanev was born on September 30, 1975 in the city of Sofia. He graduated from the capital's French high school and the problem with our entry into Schengen is precisely related to the great migrant pressure on several member states, including Austria, as the easternmost rich country .

Kanev drew attention to the internal political element, which, according to him, is a determining factor for the position of the Netherlands and Sweden, but this, in his opinion, does not cancel Bulgaria's responsibility.

"There are problems on Bulgaria's side as well, and we must intensively seek solutions to these problems," he stressed.

It is possible that it will not come to a vote, but to another postponement.

"The most likely outcome is a postponement, because the Netherlands has taken this extremely dangerous position for us - Bulgaria and Romania to be separated. Making such a separation a legal fact is not an easy step, it cannot be done in 2-3 days," explained the MEP.

According to him, at this stage we will not achieve our goal of being part of the Schengen zone, but the biggest strategic nightmare - the isolation of Bulgaria within the continental part of the union - will not be realized either.
