[Reporter Wei Jinyun/Taoyuan Report] A 73-year-old married man surnamed Chen in Yangmei District, Taoyuan City met a woman who claimed to be in her 30s on the Internet. The woman claimed that she wanted to sell the land, but she had no money to pay 80,000 yuan in value-added tax, so she asked Chen Weng for help. Yesterday, Chen Weng went to the bank to remit money at the counter. Weng kept his purse.

The Yangmei Branch of the Taoyuan City Government Police Department pointed out that the Caonan Police Station of the Yangmei Branch received a report yesterday morning from an employee of the Yangmei Branch of Taichung Commercial Bank that someone had been defrauded and needed police assistance at the scene. After the police arrived, Weng Chen told the police that he and the woman became friends through Line, and the two had a very happy conversation for 7 or 8 months. Although the two had never met after their relationship, they were called husband and wife.

The police said that after months of sweet talk, the woman told Chen Weng that she wanted to sell a piece of land, but she had no money to pay the value-added tax of 80,000 yuan, so she asked the old man for help.

The police said that the old man went to the bank to transfer money because he was dazzled by love. Fortunately, the alert banker asked questions and found something wrong, so he called the police immediately.

After the police tried their best to persuade Chen Weng that this is a common method of fraud and explained it with relevant cases, Chen Weng understood that it was a scam, and he was willing to stop contacting the other party and sending money, successfully blocking the fraud.

The Yangmei Sub-bureau appealed to this. With the widespread use of mobile phones and the development of the Internet, there are more and more ways to meet friends. Criminals use this method to defraud money. If you have any doubts, you can call the anti-fraud hotline: 165 or 110 to check.
