Stress, depression, insomnia force people in the conditions of war, which leads to the fact that many Ukrainians begin to self-prescribe and take sedative drugs. We tell you why taking psychotropic drugs is dangerous.

Taking sedatives without a doctor's supervision can lead to serious complications.

First, various

psychotropic drugs

can change behavior in opposite directions, some

can excite

and others

calm the nervous system

.

  • Drugs that stimulate the central nervous system, such as psychostimulants and nootropics, are contraindicated for hypertensive patients, people with mental disorders, hysteria, etc.

  • Drugs that inhibit the central nervous system, these drugs and most often taken as sedatives, are neuroleptics, antidepressants, tranquilizers, sleeping pills, should be used with caution by drivers.

And the most dangerous thing is that they cause addiction.

How addiction to sedative drugs is formed

Dependence is formed in this way.

The positive effect after taking the first doses of neuroleptics ends after some time and no longer works in the previous dose, which leads to the need to increase the dose.

Another negative consequence is when a person suddenly stops taking the drug, which can only be done under the supervision and with the permission of a doctor.

And when the patient gets worse after stopping taking the sedative, he starts taking it again unconditionally.

As a result of such intake, the liver, kidneys, and entire nervous system suffer.

It should be remembered that both stimulating and sedative drugs are contraindicated for pregnant women and children under 3 years of age.

An exception to their reception can be determined only by a specialist doctor.
