In recent weeks, the Russian military has carried out eight series of airstrikes against critical infrastructure that have severely affected Ukraine's energy system and led to emergency and planned blackouts across the country.

Today, the Ministry of Health issued a statement saying that hospitals will continue to provide emergency care, but scheduled operations will be temporarily suspended to ease the burden on the health system in the event of possible future power outages.

"Planned operations will be resumed when the situation surrounding the power supply stabilizes," the ministry adds.

Ukraine's state-owned grid operator Ukrenergo said today that its officials will need several more days to restore electricity production to levels prior to yesterday's Russian attacks.
