The National Electoral Commission (NEC) has reinstated three councilor candidates who were disqualified for various reasons.

The statement issued by the Commission's Director of Elections, Dr. Wilson Mahera, said that the move to return them came as a result of the appeals they went through, after some council candidates were not satisfied with the decision of the election administrators following the objections they put in the selection held on November 30, 2022 in Mainland Tanzania .

He mentioned the candidates who have been reinstated are Joseph Machiya of the ACT-Wazalendo Party who was reinstated to contest for Mwamalili Ward, Shinyanga Municipal Council.

Another person returned is Vitali Maembe also from ACT-Wazalendo Dunda Ward, Bagamoyo District Council and Samwel Mnyellah from NCCR-Mageuzi Majohe Ward, Dar es Salaam City Council.

"The commission has reached those decisions based on Article 44 (5) of the Local Government Election Law, Chapter 292 read together with the rules 29 (1), (2) and 30 (4) of the Government Election Rules of Streets (Council Elections), 2020, which provide an opportunity for Council candidates to appeal when they are not satisfied with the decision of the Returning Officer due to the objections submitted and gives the Commission the authority to accept or reverse the decision of the Returning Officer," said the Director of Elections.

This council election is held in seven wards which are Majohe (Dar es Salaam CC) Dar es Salaam, Mndumbwe (Tandahimba DC) Mtwara, Njombe Urban (Njombe TC) Njombe, Dunda (Bagamoyo DC) Pwani, Mwamalili (Shinyanga MC) Shinyanga , Mnyanjani (Tanga CC) Tanga and Vibaoni (Handeni DC) Tanga.
