[Central News Agency] Chen Jingmin, chairman of the Taiwan Nursing Association, was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland today, becoming the first Taiwanese academician since the establishment of the medical college nearly 250 years ago.

She attended the ceremony in person, and at the evening party after the ceremony, she recited poems on behalf of all foreign academicians, conveying the vision of transnational public health cooperation.

The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) was established in 1784 when Ireland was still under British rule, and the word "Royal" has been retained in its name to this day.

Chen Jingmin was awarded the Fellowship of the RCSI Faculty of Nursing & Midwifery in recognition of her academic achievements and the contribution of the Taiwan Nursing Society to the international nursing and public health community.

According to his report, Chen Jingmin expressed to the college before and after the ceremony that she would like to promote exchanges and cooperation in the field of public health between National Cheng Kung University School of Medicine, Taiwan Nursing Association and RCSI, as well as Taiwan and Ireland as a whole.

Chen Jingmin is currently also a Distinguished Professor of the Department of Nursing at Chengda University.

At the Christmas party after the academician award ceremony, Chen Jingmin recited the poem "To Gather Together" (To Gather Together) by the contemporary poet Edward Kofi Louis who was born in Ghana, conveying that medical research and public health cooperation should cross borders , common pursuit of truth and human well-being.

RCSI academicians are mainly Irish and British academicians. Famous foreign academicians over the years include French microbiologist Louis Pasteur (1822-1895), Pamela Cipriano, chairman of the International Association of Nurses (ICN), World Health Organization Organization (WHO) Secretary-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

Chen Jingmin received a doctorate in nursing from Indiana University in the United States in 1995. After returning to Taiwan, she devoted herself to nursing education. She was a member of the "Executive Yuan's Long-term Care Promotion Group". AAN), the first Asian director since the establishment of the institution nearly 50 years ago.

Chen Jingmin used to be a non-regional legislator of the Democratic Progressive Party.

Recently, Zhou Chunmi, a legislator with no division of membership in the same party, was elected as the county magistrate of Pingtung. Chen Jingmin will fill in the vacancy caused by Zhou Chunmi's resignation as a legislator.

Founded in 1914, the Taiwan Nursing Association is the oldest nursing academic professional organization in Taiwan. It joined the International Nursing Association in 1922.
