At least five people were killed in an explosion on a bus carrying oil company employees in northern Afghanistan, Reuters reported, citing police.

"A bus belonging to employees of the Khairatan Oil company exploded in Balkh today at around 7 am," said Mohammad Asif Waziri, a police spokesman in the northern Afghan province of Balkh.

He added that at least four people were injured in the blast.

It is not yet clear who is behind the attack.
