French President Emmanuel Macron commented on his high-profile statement about the need for

"security guarantees" for Russia

.

This is reported by Le Figaro.

"There is no need to make an elephant out of a fly and look for contradictions where there are none," said the French president.

According to him, at the peace talks there will be territorial topics regarding Ukraine and collective security in the entire region.

Macron explained that he discussed "security architecture" with US President Joe Biden.

In his opinion, it will be necessary to give "guarantees of Russia's own security on the day when it returns to the negotiating table."

"This is the same thing that I said from the beginning, the same thing that we, by the way, worked on in February, March and talked about," he continued, referring to attempts to provide guarantees to Putin regarding the presence of NATO near the Russian borders to avoid war in Ukraine.

Macron's statement about "guarantees for the Russian Federation": why Ukraine was outraged

It will be recalled that French President Emmanuel Macron said that Europe should prepare the future security architecture, provide Russia with security guarantees and "allay Putin's fears" regarding NATO's approach to Russia's borders.

This statement caused a stormy reaction in Ukraine.

Mykhailo Podolyak, adviser to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, noted that guarantees are not needed by Russia, but by its neighbors.

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Oleksiy Danilov, was outraged that "terrorist countries and murderers want to provide security guarantees."

Poland was also critical of this idea.

According to the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland, Marcin Przydacz, "Putin has such a psychology that any attempt at contact, appeasement strengthens him psychologically."

He remarked that

Russia is not sending any signals of readiness for negotiations.

Finland also reacted with surprise to Macron's statement.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Finland, Pekka Haavisto, emphasized that his country needs guarantees specifically against the Russian Federation, because Moscow, not its neighbors, acts as the aggressor.
