The sea capital of Bulgaria, Varna, entered the Forbes magazine's list of the "Five Most Underrated Cities to Visit in the Balkans".

The list, published on the magazine's website, also includes cities in Serbia, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of North Macedonia.

"Although it is often overshadowed by the capital Sofia, Varna has one particularly attractive element for tourists - the coastline.

(…) On a sunny day, the long white-sand beach is the perfect place for swimming and sunbathing, while the nearby Archaeological Museum of Varna is home to Roman baths, antique jewelry and one of the world's oldest gold treasures," the article reads. .

In the Albanian city of Berat, tourists can enjoy the architectural diversity, the Osum River, as well as the main attraction - Berat Castle.

Forbes also lists Doboj, a city in the Bosnian Republika Srpska, as one of Bosnia and Herzegovina's most underrated tourist cities.

There you can see the Doboj fortress, which "was built in the thirteenth century during the time of the Kingdom of Bosnia, although centuries of conflict led to its destruction, and then restoration, carried out nearly 20 times over the years."

In Serbia, tourists can pay attention to the city of Nis, close to the border with Bulgaria, which impresses with its history starting from Roman times, the magazine recommends.

In the Republic of North Macedonia, the city of Ohrid is listed as one of the most underrated tourist destinations in the Balkans.

Ohrid is home to many UNESCO-listed elements such as Byzantine churches and Lake Ohrid, which is home to various types of fish and aquatic plants, Forbes points out.
