The US allegedly secretly modified the Himars missile launchers it handed over to Ukraine so that they could not be used to fire long-range missiles at Russia.

The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) writes about this with reference to its own sources in the White House and the Pentagon.

According to the publication, the Biden administration believes that this is a precautionary measure necessary to reduce escalation with Moscow and avoid a direct US war with the Russian Federation.

"U.S. officials say that the Pentagon modified the launchers so that they (ZSU. - Ed.) could not launch long-range missiles, including missiles of the U.S. Army Tactical Missile System, or ATACMS," the article says.

The US refrained from supplying Ukraine with long-range ATACMS missiles.

But the modifications ensure that Ukraine will not be able to use US-provided Himars launchers to fire ATACMS missiles if Kyiv receives them from other countries.

Journalists note that Washington seeks to balance its support for Ukrainian forces and the risk of escalation with Moscow.

Washington also allegedly fears that Kyiv may stop fulfilling its promise not to strike Russian territory with weapons provided by the United States.

Representatives of the Pentagon and the White House, as well as the Ukrainian side, refused to make official comments on this matter.

"From October 10, Putin changed his strategy," he told the newspaper

Anders Fogh Rasmussen

, the former Prime Minister of Denmark, who served as NATO Secretary General from 2009 to 2014."

It targeted civilian infrastructure, including the power grid.

We are potentially facing a humanitarian catastrophe in Ukraine.

If you want to stop Putin, then you have to deter, by delivering, for example, long-range missiles," Rasmussen said.

Why do the USA and the West not give Ukraine long-range weapons

Earlier, the advisor of the President's Office, Oleksiy Arestovych, said that the West does not provide Ukraine with missiles with a range of up to 800 km, "because it found itself on a diplomatic tightrope."

Russian publicist Andriy Piontkovsky is certain: the USA and Germany have enough weapons in their warehouses for Ukraine to win even in a few weeks.

However, these countries believe the propaganda of the Russian Federation, which continues to frighten the West.

In particular, American senators are asking Biden to hand over Gray Eagle drones to Ukraine, which "can change the course of the war."

The Washington Post article explained why Ukraine's military successes could become a big problem for the United States.
