The Oxford English Dictionary has named its word of the year 2022.

Among all options, the winner was the phrase "goblin mode".

This was reported by the press service of Oxford University.

"Goblin mode" is a slang expression that describes an extremely selfish pattern of behavior that rejects societal norms and expectations.

According to the Oxford Dictionary, this phrase "reflects the mood of people who have rejected the idea of ​​returning to normal life."

The saying first appeared on Twitter in 2009, but became viral on social networks in February 2022, after many countries eased quarantines due to the coronavirus and people began to leave their homes more often.

In 2021, the Oxford dictionary chose "vax" as the word of the year.

The word "vax" is translated as a noun - vaccine, vaccination and as a verb - to vaccinate.
