The Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikolay Milkov

Nikolay Milkov was born on December 10, 1957 in Sofia.

He graduated from the French High School in Sofia, he had a meeting with the ambassador of the Netherlands in our country, Simon van der Burgh, reports the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The topic of the conversation was the position of the Netherlands on Bulgaria's accession to the Schengen area.

Minister Milkov has indicated that Bulgaria fulfills all the criteria for Schengen membership, which has been repeatedly confirmed by the European Commission and the reports of additional expert missions conducted on our territory.

Therefore, the Netherlands' reservations remain unconvincing, especially since The Hague refused to send its representatives to the expert missions.

The Dutch position is not accepted by the EU partners, is not based on relevant arguments and is anti-European, the minister pointed out.

Donev: We have not given up Schengen, the Netherlands' arguments are unconvincing

Against the background of the current security environment, the detention of Bulgaria outside Schengen does not contribute to the general efforts to deal with the challenges, commented Milkov.

He has made a proposal to find a compromise solution that is based on the facts and is in the interest of the European Union.
