As of December 1, 88 children in a disadvantaged social situation in the municipality of Tundzha have been receiving free school lunches, Mayor Georgi Georgiev announced.

The initiative is implemented jointly with the regional organization of the Bulgarian Red Cross (BRC) in Yambol and will continue until March 31 next year.

The social dining rooms were opened in two primary schools in the municipality - in the villages of Zavoy and Krumovo.

For this purpose, 16,200 BGN have been allocated from the municipal budget.

Children from families with financial difficulties, orphans and semi-orphans receive a free hot lunch.

The goal is to improve the health status of these children by providing rational and balanced nutrition during the winter months, supporting their families and preventing students from dropping out of the education system, said Mayor Georgiev.

The BCK project has been implemented on the territory of the municipality since 2009.

Hundreds of underprivileged children from the municipality of Tunja have received free lunch under the "Hot Lunch" Program of the Partnership Network for Charity of the BRC, added the mayor.
