On Sunday, December 4, the world-famous composition "Shchedrik" by the composer Mykola Leontovich was once again heard in the walls of the legendary Carnegie Hall in New York.

This was announced by the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mykola Kuleba.

He noted that it was in this hall 100 years ago that Americans first heard this composition, which would later become a symbol of Christmas.

"It was here 100 years ago that Americans first heard Leontovich's famous Christmas melody and fell in love with it. Now "Carol of the Bells" is a necessary attribute of Christmas for hundreds of millions of people in the USA and around the world," the minister said.

To emphasize the importance of "Shchedryk" for Ukrainian culture, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi and his wife Olena addressed the audience before the performance.

"Ukraine is proud of Leontovych's work. Through it, we tell the world about Ukrainian culture and identity. This is especially important now, when Russia is trying to destroy our people. That is why the evening began with applause for the soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine."

The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the Ukrainian children's choir "Schedryk" from Kyiv, the Ukrainian choir "Dumka" from New York and the choir "Trinity Wall Street" performed at the concert on the occasion of the centenary of "Schedryk".

Also during the concert, composer Trevor Weston presented a new composition based on a piece by Serhiy Zhadan, which was written especially for this concert.

The minister added that part of the money collected during the concert will be directed to the reconstruction of Ukraine within the framework of United24.
