The West German city of Düsseldorf has closed the area of ​​the old town where the Christmas market is located, DPA reported, citing a statement from a local authority spokesman.

Germany's Bild newspaper, quoted by BTA, reported, citing police, that the Christmas market in the old town, as well as other markets in Düsseldorf, were closed after a threat was reported.

The police evacuated everyone in the Christmas markets as a precautionary measure after a call from an anonymous person who threatened that a truck would crash into the Christmas market in front of the town hall, Bild reported.

A week ago, police in Berlin closed roads and increased security around the Alexanderplatz Christmas market after a phone threat.

The Berliner Zeitung newspaper reported at the time that an unknown person called the police and said he planned to drive his car through the crowd of revelers.

Three hours later, police said there was no threat to public safety and said they were investigating suspected abuse of the emergency line.
