Two girls were attacked and injured today on their way to school in southwestern Germany, Reuters reported, citing a police spokesman who confirmed information first reported by German newspaper Bild.

The spokesman said he could not give more information about the attack, which took place in Illerkirchberg, a town of about 5,000 people west of Munich, BTA noted.

According to "Bild", the attacker had a knife.

After arriving at the crime scene and treating the two seriously injured girls, police found that the suspect had fled into a neighboring building, Ulm police spokesman Wolfgang Juergens told local TV station SWR.

Everyone in the building was detained, he added, but did not say how many people were involved or whether the suspect was among them.

"We will get more information during the investigation," he said.
