Three people have died after a Toyota Land Cruiser 'Shangingi', owned by the Morogoro Regional Governor's Office, hit a truck of the Tanzanian People's Army (JWTZ), then lost direction and rammed the motorcyclists, causing the deaths.

The Morogoro Regional Police Commander, Fortunatus Musilimu, has said that the accident happened at 11 am on December 5, this year (2022), in the Kihonda area, Morogoro Municipality on the Morogoro - Dodoma highway.

Musilimu has named those who died as a result of the accident as Ashirafu Yusuph (43), the driver of a motorcycle with registration number MC 367 DFM and his passenger Faustine Polinali (28), residents of Kihonda.

Another person who died is Robison Mazengo (25), a resident of Mkundi who was driving a motorcycle with registration number MC 450 DDL.

According to the Commander, the cause of the accident was the carelessness of the driver Abed Namangae (53), a resident of Mkundi, Morogoro Municipality who was driving car number T 514 CAQ, Toyota Land Cruiser belonging to the office of the Regional Commissioner of Morogoro.

He said that the driver was coming from the Mkundi area, towards the city and while trying to pass other cars, he hit a JWTZ car with registration number 2032 JW12

He said that after hitting the JWTZ car, his car lost direction and went to hit the people who were carrying each other on the motorcycle, causing their deaths.

He said that the driver was alone in the car and is currently being held by the police and that he will be brought to court after the investigation is completed.

And the Information Officer of the Referral Hospital in Morogoro Region, Scholastica Ndunga has confirmed the receipt of the bodies of two people and one injured person, who also died shortly, while receiving treatment.

On his part, one of the witnesses of the accident, who identified himself as Mkude, claimed that one of the deceased was a rickshaw driver.

Mkunde has claimed that the driver boarded a bodaboda to pick up his car that he had left at the Kihonda petrol station.
