Pedestrian paths and intersections in Petrich will be equipped with new LED lighting, reports BNT.

Energy-saving lighting will also be installed in the city center, around schools and kindergartens.

The initiative was taken by the local Rotary Club, which, together with the municipality, financed the replacement of the lighting.

In 31 places in Petrich and three of the large villages in the municipality, new LED lighting must be installed by the middle of the month.

And the goal is for pedestrians to see each other more easily when crossing in the dark part of the day.

"When it's evening and in the dark, the pedestrian just thinks he can be seen because the car is shining with the headlights, but at the same time the driver can't see anything. And it was our idea to illuminate everything with LED lighting, because when it's illuminated, everything is visible to both the pedestrian and the car, to prevent accidents. It is enough to save just one life of one person, of one family, and we have fulfilled our task for years to come," said Lyubomir Grigorov, president of the Rotary Club of Petrich.

Every day, hundreds of pedestrians cross the busy "Rockfelev" boulevard in Petrich. According to many of them, in addition to the lighting, it is important that the attention of passers-by and drivers is increased in order to avoid accidents.

In addition to new LED lighting, the local Rotarians also plan to install 3 speedometers at the entrances to Petrich.

The value of the project is nearly BGN 25,000, with BGN 12,400 provided by the municipal budget, and the other half by the partner Rotary Club.
