The eruption

of Mauna Loa volcano

in Hawaii has attracted many tourists, but it may soon block a major road.

Sky News writes about it.

On Sunday, November 27, the first eruption of the Mauna Loa volcano in 38 years began.

At first it was quite weak and many people came to the town of Hilo to see the beautiful lava flows.

People occupied almost all the hotels in the surrounding area and rented helicopters for an aerial view.

Police said the multiple accidents involved a two-vehicle crash that sent two people to the hospital with minor injuries.

However, in a few days, the molten rock rushed onto the main road that connects the west and east coasts of the island of Hawaii.

Scientists from the US Geological Survey said that on Friday, December 2, a slow lava flow was flowing about 4.3 km from the highway.

It could cut the roadway next week, forcing drivers to find alternate routes in North and South Hawaii, adding several hours.

Geologists at the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory said that if Mauna Loa follows historical patterns, the eruption is expected to continue for one to two weeks.

Mauna Loa

is one of the five volcanoes that are covered by the Hawaiian Islands in the Pacific Ocean.

Mauna Loa means "Long Mountain" in the Hawaiian language.

Mauna Loa is the second largest volcano on Earth and the largest active volcano.
