A magnitude 6.1 earthquake hit Indonesia's West Java province (West Java) today (3rd), scaring people out of buildings.

[Instant News/Comprehensive Report] The Indonesian Bureau of Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG) stated that a scale of 6.1 occurred in the West Java region of Indonesia today (3rd) at 4:49 pm (Taiwan time 5:49 pm). The earthquake scared people to rush out of the building.

Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency said there was no possibility of a tsunami from the quake, Reuters reported.

The tremor was also felt in the Indonesian capital Jakarta, about 280 kilometers away from the epicenter.

Abdul Muhari, spokesman for Indonesia's National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), said one person was injured and four houses collapsed in Garut, the town closest to the epicenter.

However, according to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake had a magnitude of 5.7 and a depth of 112.5 kilometers.

Residents of other towns in West Java reported on social media that they felt a strong quake.

A Reuters reporter in Bandung, the capital of West Java, said guests at a restaurant rushed out of the building but then returned inside.

An hour later, another small aftershock with a magnitude of 2.9 and a depth of 107 kilometers occurred.

Last month (21st), a shallow earthquake with a magnitude of 5.6 occurred in Cianjur, West Java Province, Indonesia, killing more than 300 people.

Suharyanto, head of Indonesia's National Disaster Management Agency, told local TV news network MetroTV: "Hopefully this time it will not be as severe as the last Zhanyu earthquake because the depth of the earthquake is deeper than last time." And said the authorities will continue to confirm the situation in the vicinity of the epicentre.
