[Reporter Yang Chengyu/Taipei Report] The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated today (3rd) that Foreign Minister Wu Zhaoxie received Dr. Osahon Enabulele, President of the World Medical Association (WMA) and the Council Chairman Dr. Frank Ulrich Montgomery and his wife and Secretary-General Dr. Otmar Kloiber welcomed the visit to Taiwan and thanked WMA for its firm support for Taiwan's participation in the World Health Organization (WHO) and related mechanisms over the years, emphasizing that Taiwan will Continue to cooperate with other countries, contribute to medical and humanitarian assistance, and demonstrate the power of good.

Wu Zhaoxie said that after the outbreak of Wuhan pneumonia (new coronavirus disease, COVID-19), Taiwan did not hesitate to provide masks, medical protection materials and share anti-epidemic experience to other countries. This spirit should be cherished by WHO.

It is quite unreasonable for Taiwan's 23 million people to be excluded from the WHO. Taiwan must and should join the WHO. I would like to thank the WMA for speaking out for my country's participation in the WHO and firmly supporting the righteous act that the WHO should be included in Taiwan.

Wu Zhaoxie affirmed WMA's various medical and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine since the outbreak of the Russo-Ukraine War in 2022. He also shared that as Europe enters the severe winter, the Taiwan government and people will go further into schools, hospitals and churches in Ukraine to provide The humanitarian supplies needed by the Chinese people, and Taiwan’s loving donation has also been warmly responded by the Ukrainian people. The Ukrainian flag displayed in the minister’s reception room was a gift from the Ukrainian people who came from afar.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the WMA was established in 1947. It is composed of 115 professional medical associations from all over the world. The WMA delegation was invited to Taiwan to participate in the "New Coronary Pneumonia: Retrospect and Prospect International Symposium" organized by the "Taiwan Medical Association".
