First patient of Zika virus found in Maharashtra.

A 67-year-old man has been found infected with Zika virus in Pune's Bavdhan area.

The Health Department gave this information on Friday.

The person is a resident of Nashik and had come to Pune on 6 November.

On 16 November, he came to Jehangir Hospital with fever, cough, joint pain and fatigue and was diagnosed with Zika in a private lab on 18 November.

Maharashtra Health Department said, "A case of Zika virus has been reported in Maharashtra. Zika virus was found in a 67-year-old male patient in Bavdhan Pune city. He is originally from Nashik and came to Pune on 6 November. Earlier on October 22, he traveled to Surat. On November 30, the NIV confirmed that he had Zika virus infection. Currently, the patient is clinically stable and has no complications."

An entomological survey of Zika virus is being conducted in Pune city to reduce the incidence of the disease in future.

Further investigation is going on.

Zika virus (ZIKV) disease (ZVD) is considered one of the important public health diseases following the 2016 outbreak in Brazil.
