Italy placed the Russian oil giant Lukoil's refinery in Sicily under temporary state management.

The goal is to avoid its closure and to guarantee national energy supplies, reports Nova TV.

There was a real danger that the Lukoil-controlled refinery, one of the largest in Europe, would stop production due to the entry into force on December 5 of the embargo imposed by the European Union on the import of Russian crude oil by sea.

Italy may nationalize Lukoil refinery

Rome is thus following the example of Berlin, which in September took control of the activities of the Russian oil group RosNeft in Germany.
