Since early October, police in the British capital have spent 5.5 million pounds ($6.8 million) on increased patrols to counter Just Stop Oil campaigners, who are calling for a quick transition to green energy.

This was stated in a statement by "Scotland Yard" after a meeting of the police leadership held yesterday at the residence of Prime Minister Rishi Sunak

Rishi Sunak - British economist and politician. Rishi Sunak was born on May 12, 1980 in Southampton.

"The actions of Just Stop Oil campaigners continue to waste valuable staff time that could be more effectively used in local communities and on priority tasks such as fighting crime," said the Assistant Commissioner of the London police Matt Twist, quoted by TASS, reported BTA.

He said that despite the fact that members of the movement this week were not as active as before, the police were forced to redeploy 180 of their officers on Wednesday to counter possible protest actions.

In fact, since they started their campaign on Oct. 2, their actions have lasted 46 days and required 12,500 law enforcement shifts, which in monetary terms amounts to more than 5.5 million pounds, Twist said.

According to him, during that time, 755 people were detained, and 182 were charged with various violations - from obstructing traffic to intentionally disrupting public order.

They have made it very clear that they intend to continue the protests, and we will continue to work to ensure Londoners are able to go about their normal activities, added the deputy commissioner.
