A heated debate in Senegal's parliament turned into a mass fight.

The standoff began after an opposition MP slapped his colleague.

The plenary session was broadcast live on television.

The footage shows Masata Samb approaching Amy Ndiaye Gnibi, who is from the country's ruling party, and punching her in the face, Nova TV reported.

On live television, viewers saw Gniby throw a chair at her attacker, and then another lawmaker tackled her to the ground in an attempt to prevent further confrontations.

Of course, this did not stop the rest of the people's representatives from exchanging insults before the chairman closed the meeting.

The dispute arose during a heated debate over the country's budget.

Tempers have been running high since July, when the ruling party lost its majority in parliament amid fears that President Macky Sall will seek re-election for a third term in 2024.
