Dehradun:

Welcoming the passing of the anti-forcible conversion bill with strict provisions in Uttarakhand, eminent sages have asked other states to follow it.

President of Akhil Bhartiya Akhara Parishad Swami Ravindra Puri said that Dhami has done a historic work by passing the anti-conversion bill.

He said, "Other governments should also enact similar laws in their states."

Mahamandaleshwar Swami Awadheshanand Giri of Juna Akhara said that conversion is the business of soul and culmination of inhumanity and the efforts of the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand to stop it by enacting an effective law against conversion are commendable.

He said, "Conversion by force and force, fear, greed, deceit or fraud is an attack on a person's privacy, freedom and independence, against which Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has raised the alarm."

For this, the government deserves congratulations.

Jagatguru Shankaracharya and Swami Vasudevanand Saraswati Maharaj, trustee of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi pilgrimage area created for the construction of Shri Ram temple in Ayodhya, said that the Uttarakhand government has banned forced conversions, which is beneficial for the state, the country and the society.

Hindu Dharma Pracharak and Vishva Hindu Parishad leader Sadhvi Prachi said that Dhami has taken a very good initiative by passing the bill for 10 years of punishment for those who forcibly convert.

In the Uttarakhand Freedom of Religion (Amendment) Bill-2022, passed in the state assembly on Wednesday, a strict provision of punishment of up to 10 years has been made for the culprits of forced conversion.

Making religious conversion against the law a cognizable and non-bailable offense in the bill, there is a provision of imprisonment for a minimum of three years to a maximum of 10 years for its culprits.

Apart from this, a provision has also been made for a fine of at least Rs 50 thousand if found guilty under this.

Under the bill, the perpetrator of the crime may have to pay a compensation amount of at least five lakh rupees, which will be payable to the victim.

Describing the passing of the bill as an important achievement, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the strict law made to stop religious conversions will be implemented strongly in the state.

Describing things like religious conversions in Devbhoomi Uttarakhand as 'very dangerous', Dhami said, "The government had decided that strictest laws should be made to stop religious conversions in the state."

This law will be strictly implemented in the state.
