In Spain, explosive devices were found in letters addressed to Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, the Ministry of Defense and Torrejon Air Base.

Spain has stepped up security at government and diplomatic buildings after a series of letter bombs were sent to targets including Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and the Ukrainian embassy.

The ministry said an "envelope containing pyrotechnic material" addressed to Sanchez was received on November 24 and defused by his security team.

The first letter-bomb was received and opened by an officer of the security service of the Ukrainian embassy on Wednesday afternoon.

It exploded, slightly injuring the official.

The Embassy of Ukraine reported that a suspicious package addressed to the Ambassador of Ukraine to Spain, Serhii Pohoreltsev, was handed over to the Ukrainian commandant of the embassy.

"There was a box in the package, which made the commandant suspicious, and he decided to take it outside so that no one was around and open it. Opening the box and hearing a click, he threw it up, and then heard an explosion... Despite the fact that he did not hold the box in his hands, as a result of the explosion, the commandant injured his hands and received a concussion," Serhiy Pohoreltsev said.

A second package was confirmed to have been received on Wednesday evening at the headquarters of Spanish arms manufacturer Instalaza in Zaragoza, northeastern Spain, police said.

Instalaza produces the C90 MLRS, which Spain supplied to Ukraine.

Spain's defense ministry said Spanish security forces found a third suspected explosive device hidden in an envelope mailed to the European Union's satellite center located at the air force base in Torrejon de Ardos, near Madrid.

After scanning the envelope with X-rays, security officers determined it contained an explosive "mechanism," the ministry said in a statement.

Spanish media reported that another device was sent to Spain's Ministry of Defense in Madrid, but this has not yet been confirmed by authorities.

The High Court of Spain, which specializes in terrorist crimes, opened an investigation into the fact that unknown people sent bomb letters.
