Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are set to strike effectively from tomorrow.

They are demanding a 100% increase in the lowest wages in the department.

Our foreign ministry has sent a request to the acting prime minister for a 30 percent increase in monthly salaries, for which 8.5 million leva will be needed.

The proposal for a 30% salary increase in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not satisfy the employees.

"This would satisfy us if the year was 2020 or earlier, but at this stage it does not fit in any way with our demands, which are for a 100% increase in the lowest wages in the system. We do not want only an increase in wages and also in travel funds. We start effectively from tomorrow. We will be at our workplaces, this is a requirement by law, it's just that the work process will be suspended. From central management, more than half of the employees have declared in support of the strike demands," said Martin Kolev and Ludmil Iliev from the Professional Union of Civil Servants in the Diplomatic Service.

The subject was also commented on by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kostadin Kojabashev, at his regular briefing.

According to him, salaries in the department are among the lowest.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs went on an effective strike

"The question has been raised more than once and twice before the ministry. Several meetings have been held with representatives of the trade union. The question raised by them is reasonable. In fact, in the MFA 20-25, salaries are one of the lowest, which is not justified, of course The idea here is to attract young, skilled, capable personnel... We hope for a positive solution to the question posed by the union," Kodjabashev pointed out.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs has prepared a proposal to the acting Prime Minister requesting a 30% salary increase in the department:

"The question is to what extent the financial framework at this stage allows for a certain percentage of salary increases, and that such an increase is necessary is an indisputable fact," commented Kodjabashev.
