On the day of the fight against AIDS, specialists of the National Health Service of Ukraine remind that this is a serious infectious disease caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), which affects the human immune system, reducing the body's resistance to diseases.

However, with early detection and regular antiretroviral therapy, people with HIV can live long and fulfilling lives.

Prevention and treatment of HIV

are covered by the "Program of Medical Guarantees" and are completely free for Ukrainians.

First you need to be tested for HIV.

Where can you get an HIV test?

  • at your family doctor;

  • in the nearest AIDS Center or office "Trust";

  • in any health care institution of Ukraine that provides medical care within 13 packages of the medical guarantee program, including outpatient and inpatient medical care;

  • in non-governmental organizations;

  • you can order an oral HIV test and use it to self-test using the links;

    the test ordering option is available for people who completed the risk questionnaire and received a high and average result.

"If you are living with HIV, do not forget to take antiretroviral therapy daily. This will not only help you feel better and live a more fulfilling life, but also protect your partner from infection. After all, if the

level of viral load is undetectable, HIV is not transmitted by sexual means," the doctors note.

Antiretroviral therapy in Ukraine is free.

It can be obtained at the AIDS Center or on the ART site after consulting a doctor.

Also, the Public Health Center, with the support of the "Innovations to overcome the HIV epidemic" project, developed a platform and a chatbot in Telegram.

These resources will help people living with HIV to find ART where they are now - in Ukraine or abroad.

We will remind, according to the data of a new study, during the war, every third family in Ukraine, in which a person with a chronic disease lives, is unable to provide her with care.
