After receiving a report from the Spanish police, the National Judicial Board of Spain opened a preliminary investigation into the explosion at the Ukrainian embassy in Madrid (Spain) as a terrorist crime.

The Spanish publication Europa Press, citing its sources in the police, reports that, according to a preliminary analysis, the package, which was addressed to the Ambassador of Ukraine Serhiy Pogoreltsev, contained

pyrotechnic elements.

The judge has not yet made a decision to start an investigation, waiting for a police report with more detailed and specific information about the incident," the authors of the article write.

Explosion at the Embassy of Ukraine in Madrid

On Wednesday, November 30, according to Spanish media, an explosion rang out at the Embassy of Ukraine in Madrid, as a result of which one person was injured.

The explosion was reported at 1:15 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Spanish publication ultimahora.es added that the letter was addressed to the Ambassador of Ukraine Serhiy Pogoreltsev.

This was confirmed by the diplomat himself.

He said that his secretary noticed that the package had no return address and called the commandant of the embassy.

The man decided to check the contents of the package in the garden. When he opened it, he heard strange sounds. 

After the explosion, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dmytro Kuleba, instructed to urgently strengthen the security of all Ukrainian embassies abroad.
