The West, through NATO, is waging a coordinated war against Russia in Ukraine and risks an "uncontrollable escalation" of tensions between world powers, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov warned today.

"The war that the collective West has waged against Russia affects the situation of strategic stability," Lavrov said at a conference in Moscow.

He assured that NATO is no longer a defensive alliance, but an aggressor that has turned Ukraine into a "bridgehead against Russian interests."

Ukraine and its citizens are being burned as "consumables" as the West pushes Kyiv to continue fighting, Lavrov added.

He made the statement after Moscow said several times in recent weeks that it was ready to talk to the leadership in Kyiv about ending hostilities, but each time its offers were rejected.

Lavrov emphasized that the Russian security doctrine aims to prevent any clashes between the nuclear powers, because such a development could lead to an uncontrollable escalation of the situation.

"Western counterparts are trying to deviate from this part of the formula," he said.

Referring to "unprecedented expansionist globalism" on the part of NATO, Lavrov expressed his conviction that most countries are aware of the danger of this new direction of the Western military alliance.

He presented Russia as a pioneer in the struggle against Western colonialism - an obvious attempt to win over the Asian and African countries that had sent representatives to the conference.

Also today, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said in an interview with RT TV that the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) is collapsing and being cynically used by a certain circle of countries.

"The OSCE is being destroyed as an organization, it is being cynically used by a narrow circle of countries to disparage alternative perspectives on the architecture of international security," he said.

The annual meeting of OSCE foreign ministers begins tomorrow in Lodz.
