President Ilham Aliyev signed an obituary on the death of renowned chemist scientist, full member of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, Honored Scientist, State Prize laureate, individual scholarship holder of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Musa Ismayil oglu Rustamov.

APA reports that the obituary stated that the scientific community of Azerbaijan suffered a heavy loss.

Renowned chemical scientist, full member of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, Honored Scientist, State Prize laureate, individual scholarship holder of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Musa Ismayil oglu Rustamov died on November 29, 2022 at the age of 93.


Musa Rustamov was born on May 8, 1930 in Ordubad, Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

After graduating from secondary school, in 1947-1952, he received higher education at the chemical technology faculty of Azerbaijan Industrial Institute, specializing in chemist-technologist.

Musa Rustamov, who started his career in 1952 as an engineer-technologist at the Azerbaijan Scientific Research Oil Refining Institute (currently at the Yusif Mammadaliyev Institute of Petrochemical Processes under the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan), was a junior researcher at the same institute in 1959-1988. , worked as a senior researcher, laboratory manager and deputy director for scientific affairs, was the director of the institute in 1988-2011, and from 2011 until the end of his life worked as the head of the Oil and Gas Chemistry and Technology Department of the enterprise.

Musa Rustamov defended his candidacy in 1961, doctorate theses in 1968, and received the scientific title of professor in 1973.

He was elected a corresponding member of the Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences in 1980, and a full member in 1989.

Academician Musa Rustamov contributed to the development of Azerbaijani science with his researches in the field of petrochemicals and oil refining.

Under the leadership of the scientist, the new generation catalytic cracking system, whose modifications are based on deep scientific foundations, was selected for its high efficiency and successfully applied in the oil refining industry in our republic and beyond its borders.

Musa Rustamov's research also reflected the issues of creating environmentally friendly technologies.

With the direct participation of the scientist, the first researches on hydrogen energy were conducted in the republic, the concept of future use of energy carriers, complex development schemes of Azerbaijan's oil refining and petrochemical industry were developed.

Musa Rustamov is the author of more than 500 scientific works, as well as 10 books and 60 patents.

He received 130 authorship certificates for his scientific achievements.

Paying special attention to training of scientific personnel, Musa Rustamov has trained up to 50 doctors of philosophy and 15 doctors of sciences.

The scientist has duly represented Azerbaijan at prestigious symposiums and conferences in foreign countries.

Academician Musa Rustamov's long-term and productive scientific activity was highly appreciated.

In 1979, he received the honorary title of "Honored Scientist", in 1982 he was a laureate of the Republic State Prize, in 2004 he was awarded the Order of Glory, one of the highest awards of the independent Azerbaijan Republic, in 2019 he was awarded the "President of the Republic of Azerbaijan" was awarded with an honorary diploma".

The memory of Musa Ismayil oglu Rustamov, a prominent scientist and sincere person, will always live in the hearts of those who knew him.
