Congress is still the main opposition party: Shah

New Delhi:

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has played down the Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) challenge in the Gujarat assembly elections, claiming that the Arvind Kejriwal-led party might not even be able to open its account.

He said the announcement by the state unit of the

Bharatiya Janata Party

(BJP) to set up an anti-radicalisation cell is a good initiative which the Center and other states can consider.

In an interview with 'PTI-Bhasha', Shah cited the popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the all-round development of Gujarat during his tenure as the chief minister of the state and the move to implement the zero appeasement policy by the people in the last 27 years. Told the main reason for reposing faith in BJP.

He said, “The BJP will register an unprecedented victory in Gujarat.

People have full faith in our party and our leader Prime Minister Narendra Modi."

On the question of AAP's entry in the Gujarat assembly elections, Shah said, "Every party has the right to contest elections, but it depends on the people whether they accept the party or not."

He said, "'AAP' does not stay anywhere in the minds of the people of Gujarat.

Wait for the election results, perhaps the names of AAP candidates may not appear in the list of successful candidates.

The Congress has been the BJP's main rival in Gujarat, while the AAP, led by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, has launched an aggressive campaign in Modi's home state.

On the challenge being faced by the Congress, Shah said, "Congress is still the main opposition party, but it is going through a crisis at the national level and its impact is visible in Gujarat as well."
