"This equipment will be urgently delivered to Ukraine on an emergency basis to help Ukrainians survive the winter," the Voice of America quoted the State Department as saying.

The package for Ukraine will include distribution transformers, circuit breakers, surge arresters and other equipment.

This assistance is in addition to the already allocated US $55 million in emergency support to Ukraine's energy sector to help restore emergency power and heat to local municipalities affected by Russian shelling.

Since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the United States has given Ukraine about $32 billion in aid, including $145 million for repairs, maintenance and strengthening of Ukraine's energy sector.

According to Ukrenergo estimates, after the massive missile strike on November 15, there were "virtually no undamaged thermal and hydroelectric power stations, as well as nodal substations" left in Ukraine.

Starting from October, Russia has been carrying out large-scale attacks on the Ukrainian electricity transmission and heating infrastructure.

According to Washington, this is a deliberate campaign to harm the civilian population and, therefore, a war crime, notes "Voice of America".
