The Attorney General of Angola Helder Pitta Groz has confirmed that his country has issued an arrest warrant for the daughter of the former President of the country, Jose Eduardo dos Santos, Isabel dos Santos.

According to Angop's website, Groz was quoted as saying that the Angolan authorities wanted to arrest Mrs. dos Santos, the former head of the state-owned oil company, through Interpol, after failing to find her and there being no response from her or her lawyers despite being sent requests to be called several times for interviews.

Interpol issues a 'red notice' which is a request to law enforcement agencies around the world to find and detain someone.

However, as of Tuesday morning, no such statement of Mrs. dos Santos was listed in Interpol's online database.

According to Groz, he has claimed that the Angolan government has been working with Interpol to find Ms. Dos Santos, who has been accused by the country's authorities of misuse and embezzlement of public funds while leading the state oil company, Sonangol.

Reports say that dos Santos (49) is wanted for various crimes including money laundering, fraud and abuse of power.

She has also faced allegations of corruption over the years, including allegations by Angola in 2020 that she and her husband had given $1 billion in government funds to companies they had stakes in during her father's presidency, including oil giant Sonangol.

Isabel dos Santos has repeatedly denied being involved in the crimes.

In an interview with The New York Times he said that he was ready to be interviewed.

"My address is known, my whereabouts are known," he told the newspaper.

"I am not a refugee.

I am not hiding from anyone, "he added, saying that he was living in London.

He also described the accusations as political.

Isabel dos Santos' father, Jose Eduardo dos Santos, died in July this year after ruling Angola for almost four decades until 2017.

Isabel dos Santos was once named the richest woman in Africa with her fortune estimated at 3.5 billion dollars.
