Tanzania Electricity Corporation (Tanesco) has announced short-term and medium-term efforts to face the challenge of electricity shortage.

Tanesco's statement explained yesterday that the short-term efforts made to bring in a total of 90 megawatts include completing the maintenance of one LM6000 plant at Ubungo station number III.

"Additionally, this plant has already started injecting 35 megawatts of electricity into the National Grid from November 25 as we explained earlier;

the maintenance of one plant of the Kidatu station is in the final stages of completion.

"And we expect this plant to start injecting 50 megawatts of electricity into the National Grid by November 30, as we explained before," explained the statement issued by the Directorate of Communications and Public Relations, Tanesco headquarters.

The statement explained that maintenance at Kinyerezi station number I has been completed and the station is producing electricity at its capacity.

"The tests of the two plants in Kinyerezi extension station number I are continuing and currently these plants are injecting a total of 65 megawatts of electricity into the National Grid.

"And we expect that by the end of December 2022, these plants will be producing a total of 90 megawatts as we explained before," he explained in the statement.

Tanesco explained that they are still continuing with the maintenance works of the two plants of Ubungo number III and after completion at the end of December this year it will produce 40 megawatts of electricity.
