In the American Pacific state of Hawaii, on Sunday, November 27, the eruption of the largest active

volcano

in the world, Mauna Loa, began for the first time since 1984.

"The world's largest active volcano spewed some ash and lava on Monday. Authorities warned residents of the Big Island of Hawaii to prepare for a possible larger eruption," the statement said.

The Hawaii Tourism Authority says the eruption does not pose a threat to population centers or flights to the island.

However, the National Weather Service advised people with respiratory illnesses to stay at home, and those who still want to go outside, to cover their mouths and noses with a mask or cloth.

Currently, the lava flows are concentrated in the area of ​​the summit and do not threaten settlements located further down the slope. 

However, meteorologists warned that the fall of ash could damage vehicles, buildings and plants, pollute water sources, and disrupt the operation of sewage and electrical systems.

Mauna Loa volcano

Mauna Loa is one of the five volcanoes that form the Hawaiian Islands in the state of Hawaii in the Pacific Ocean, its height is 4169 meters.

The last eruption of Mauna Loa took place from March 24, 1984 to April 15, 1984.

Mauna Loa is the second largest volcano on Earth and the largest active volcano.
