The Turkish armed forces neutralized 14 terrorists from the People's Protection Forces (PDF), the Syrian wing of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), in northern Syria, Turkey's Ministry of National Defense announced today, quoted by BTA.

The fighters tried to destabilize the situation in the areas of the "Peace Spring" and "Olive Branch" anti-terrorist operations, the ministry said.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said earlier that since 1984, when PKK militants first carried out a terrorist attack in Turkey, thousands of members of the Turkish security forces, military and civilians have died because of the PKK.

Since 2016, Turkey has conducted several operations in northern Syria to clear the area along the Turkish border of Islamic State terrorists and fighters of the Syrian Kurdish People's Protection Forces (PDF), including the Euphrates Shield ( 2016), "Olive Branch" (2018) and "Fountain of Peace" (2019).

Turkey views the People's Defense Forces (PDF) and the Turkey-based Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) as branches of the same terrorist organization.

The Kurdistan Workers' Party, which has been waging an armed struggle against the Turkish state since 1984, is considered a terrorist organization by Ankara, the EU and the US.
