Pre-trial proceedings against 240 police officers were initiated in one year, according to statistics of the Internal Security Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The data cover the period from July 1, 2021 to July 1, 2022, it is clear from the answer of acting Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev to a parliamentary question from GERB MP and former Interior Minister Hristo Terziyski about the activities of "Internal Security", writes "Now".

The investigations launched and the reports sent to the competent prosecutor's offices during this period are against 140 employees from the "Traffic Police" and "Security Police", against 37 employees from the "Border Police", as well as against 63 employees of the "Criminal and Economic Police", it says more in the answer.

During the same period, the Internal Security Directorate received 241 reports.

Of these, 114 were sent to the competent prosecutor's office.

57 were sent to other structures of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

On 42 reports, the work continues, and on 28 the verification has been completed, and the data specified in them have not been confirmed.

In the week following the action of the "Internal Security" Directorate in Blagoevgrad, policemen accused of accepting bribes were detained, and they were arrested precisely following the investigation of the "Internal Security" department and the prosecutor's office.

Against this background, three police officers from GPU Malko were also arrested on a report of robbery of illegal migrants.
