[Reporter Cai Sipei/Taipei Report] Taipei Zoo's African animal area welcomed the baby giraffe "Mai Meng" in August this year. He has just turned 3 months old. Compared with the birth weight of less than 100 kilograms, he has rapidly increased to 156 kilograms. The zoo has started to let Mai Meng go to the outdoor playground to get to know the new environment and meet the guests.

According to the zoo, the caretakers guided Maimeng to weigh him on the weighbridge every week to confirm that his weight continued to increase steadily. A while ago, the caretakers began to try to let Maimeng go to the outdoor playground to get acquainted with the new environment.

It was a very fresh experience for Maimeng to enter the large-scale outdoor playground for the first time. Although the weather was cloudy and rainy a few days ago, Maimeng still did not hinder it from exploring around curiously.

While the other giraffes were enjoying breakfast in the hanging basket, the active Mai Meng could no longer hold back her excitement and galloped back and forth in the outdoor playground.

According to the zoo, the climate in Taiwan is more rainy and humid than that of Africa, the native habitat of giraffes. In order to avoid the risk of hypothermia for new giraffes, and to facilitate the caretakers to observe the reactions and growth status of baby giraffes, the zoo will make timely adjustments.

After the baby giraffes are born, let them stay indoors with their mothers. After they are in a stable physical condition, they have the opportunity to move from the pen to a wider outdoor space for activities.

In the future, the childcare staff will continue to evaluate whether Maimeng is suitable for joining the group in outdoor playgrounds based on changes in climate temperature and physiological state.

If tourists pass through the African animal area during the day, they can stop by to see the giraffe family and have the chance to say hello to Mai Meng.
