The Russian Foreign Ministry announced today that it has summoned the Norwegian ambassador for an explanation due to, according to the department, the politically motivated detention of Russian citizens for the alleged illegal use of drones, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

"It was noted that the sentences against the Russian citizens were politically motivated and had nothing to do with the principles of fair and impartial justice," the ministry said in a statement.

Several Russian citizens have been arrested by Norwegian authorities for flying drones near the Arctic border between the two countries or photographing classified sites as Norway tightens security measures following suspected sabotage against the Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines that run along the bottom of Baltic Sea.
