Bhopal:

Six members of a gang from Bihar allegedly fled after looting gold worth around Rs 5 crore and 3.5 lakh cash from a bank offering gold loans in Madhya Pradesh's Katni district.

Katni's Superintendent of Police (SP) SK Jain told 'PTI-Bhasha' over phone that the incident took place in Bargawan on Saturday.

6 masked robbers armed with weapons came riding on a motorcycle and looted valuables and cash from the bank employees by showing them the fear of pistols.

He said that there were no proper security arrangements in this bank.

Police has so far arrested 2 accused.

When asked about some reports claiming that the robbers had decamped with 16 kg of gold worth Rs eight crore, the Superintendent of Police said that the officials of this bank had not informed him about the weight of the looted gold.

According to Jain, the robbers, aged between 25 and 30, are residents of Bihar and the gang members have a criminal record in that state.

He told that the accused are not very educated.

Jain said that efforts are being made to arrest the accused.

According to the information, 5 miscreants entered the office of Manappuram Gold Loan Company in Bargawan at 10:25 am on Saturday morning with guns.

During this, the employees were cleaning the office.

Everyone got scared seeing the gun.

The miscreants threatened to kill the employees.

The miscreants stayed in the office for 20 minutes.

Took out the jewelry kept in the box and vault and fled with the jewelry at around 10:45.

While leaving, the employees of the company took Rahul Koshti's bike.

The police is scanning the CCTV footage to arrest the rest of the accused.

Blockade has been done in the entire district.

Vehicles are being checked in other urban areas including highways.
