The European championship among junior taekwondo players has ended in Valletta, the capital of Malta.

According to the information provided by the Taekwondo Federation to apasport.az website, on the last day of the competition, the Azerbaijani national team added 2 more gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medals to its assets.

Team member Ilyas Hatamli started the competition with Owen Haddad (France).

Our taekwondo player, who tested his strength in the weight class of 37 kg, did not give Serbian Pavle Svetkovic a chance in the quarter finals.

Hatamli, who also defeated Konstantinos Tsagkournos (Greece) in the semi-final, faced Victor Videla (Spain) in the final.

The tense battle ended with the victory of our representative.

The athlete who defeated all his opponents won the title of champion.

His success was repeated by Vasif Salimov (53 kg).

He reached the final by defeating Svyatoslav Moskovtsev (Estonia), Stanislav Mitkov (Bulgaria), Nolhan Rosemont (France) and Nusret Efe Çakıra (Turkey).

Salimov won the decisive match as well.

Winning over Gabriel Rosato (Italy) in the final, the national member won the gold medal.

Eljan Aliyev (65 kg) defeated Bilgin Abdullah (Germany), Dimos Pistolas (Greece) and Nikola Vitkovic (Serbia).

He faced Ahmet Ceylan (Turkey) in the final.

Since the opponent was superior, Aliyev was awarded the silver medal.

Fuad Maharlamli won the other award for our nation.

The athlete fighting in 45 kg weight eliminated Batu Ozka (Germany) from the competition in his debut.

He also showed his strength against Artyom Roska (Moldova) in the 1/4 finals.

Our compatriot met Christos Bakaleksik (Greece) in the semi-finals.

The match ended in favor of the opponent and Muharramli finished the race with a bronze medal.


Thus, our team finished the European Championship with 3 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze medals.

This indicator is the record of the last 17 years in the history of Azerbaijani taekwondo.

With 8 national medals, he was the 3rd of the continent in both the boys and the overall team score.

Previously, Zahra Isayeva (29 kg), Khuraman Javadzade (37 kg) won silver, Mehdi Budagli (33 kg) and Bahadur Dostuyev (49 kg) won bronze medals in the team.
