Several Iranian actresses have photographed themselves without a hijab as a sign of support for the country's protests, AFP reported, citing a video shared on social networks.

It is the latest demonstration by artists since the death on September 16 of Mahsa Amini, a young Iranian Kurdish woman who was arrested by the morality police for violating the strict dress code that requires women to wear the hijab in public.

The short video shows filmmaker and actress Soheila Golestani posing for a camera without a headscarf in a city park.

Eight more women and four men line up silently around her.

At the moment, AFP is unable to establish where and when the recording was made.

Golestani posted the video on his Instagram account last night, writing: "The play is over and the truth is out. Our real heroes are the anonymous ones."

The footage was also shared by director Hamid Pourazari, who also stars in it.

According to the London-based news site Iran Wire, all those in the video are actors.

After the young woman's death unleashed a huge public outcry in Iran, many women in the arts defied the authorities by publicly removing their hijabs.

The same was the case with the actress Tarane Alidusti, who some time ago declared that she would stay in her country "regardless of the cost".

Iranian authorities detained 40 foreigners and accused them of inciting the protests

Two other well-known actresses, Hengame Ghaziani and Katayoun Riyahi, were detained for their support of the unrest, which Iranian authorities say is fueled by the West.

Ghaziani was detained on November 20 and released on bail yesterday, Iran's IRNA news agency reported.

Among the filmmakers detained in Iran even before the protests began are directors Mohammad Rasulof and Jafar Panahi.
