On the resort island of Ischia - in the south of Italy - a massive

landslide

occurred before dawn on November 26 due to a large amount of precipitation.

A wave of mud, debris and stones broke away from the island's highest mountain and fell on houses and roads in the town of Casamicciola Terme.

According to the latest data, 30 houses were flooded, more than 200 people were left homeless.

It is reported that the body of a woman was found under a thick layer of dirt, several more people are considered missing.

 "We heard a rumble at about three o'clock in the morning, then the first landslide came, followed by the second at about five in the morning. It was terrible," said Lisa Mocciaro, a resident of the city.

Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi told reporters that the situation was very difficult and that the missing people were likely trapped under the mudflow.

is a volcanic island located about 30 km from Naples.
